"donde" is an artist's book by Eduardo Lalo, which I designed a while ago and which is now finally published by Ediciones Corregidor.
From an editorial design perspective, I sought to accompany the raw, experimental and at the same time fresh nature of the story with a monospaced font in combination with another with uniform, mechanical, unexpected and twisted strokes. There are also six dot patterns of increasing densities that «vibrate» more or less depending on the page or the text, ranging from the annoying to the barely perceptible. (Yes, the text and the page «asks» for things. You have to try to perceive them.) It is a work that is uncomfortable.
Literary essay, photographic essay, novel, theorization on the history of writing in the Caribbean, disquisition on the eccentric regions of the planet. This and more is this artist's book by Eduardo Lalo, where he explores the complexities of today's world as well as the versatile potential of the book form.

«donde» es un libro de artista de Eduardo Lalo, que diseñé hace un tiempo y que ahora finalmente publica Ediciones Corregidor.
Desde el diseño editorial busqué acompañar lo crudo, experimental y a la vez fresco del relato con una fuente monoespaciada en combinación con otra de trazos uniformes, mecánicos, inesperados y retorcidos. También hay seis tramas de puntos de densidades crecientes que «vibran» más o menos según la página o el texto lo pida, yendo desde lo molesto hacia lo apenas perceptible. (Sí, el texto y la página «piden» cosas. Hay que tratar de percibirlas). Es una obra que incomoda.
Ensayo literario, ensayo fotográfico, novela, teorización sobre la historia de la escritura en el Caribe, disquisición sobre las regiones excéntricas del planeta. Esto y más es este libro de artista de Eduardo Lalo, donde explora las complejidades del mundo actual a la vez que el potencial polivalente de la forma libro.
